Cleaning your air fryer after every use is very important, as it helps get rid of the plastic smell. It keeps your appliance in tip-top shape and functioning properly. It also keeps any foul smell away and prevents residue build-up. More importantly, when your air fryer is clean, you are sure that the food you are preparing is clean and safe to eat.
For the Basket and Drawer:
- Put the air fryer basket in the container with warm soapy water. Let soak in the solution for at least 10 minutes.
- With a scrubber or a sponge, scrub ant dirt off from the basket – use a delicate, non-abrasive scrub/sponge that will not harm the basket in any way.
- When all the dirt is scrubbed off, rinse the basket under running tap water. Repeat the process with the drawer.
- NEVER use an abrasive material to clean it. Otherwise, you will damage the drawer.
For the Housing:
- The housing will not become as greasy as the basket and the drawer, so cleaning will not be too difficult. However, still need to clean it regularly.
- Use a moist, soft cloth to wipe off dirt and grease from the outside of the housing.
- Use hot water and a soft sponge to clean the inner surfaces of the housing.
- Use a soft-medium bristle brush to clean the heating element, especially if some food residues that stick to it.
- Wipe it dry with paper towels. NEVER use an abrasive brush or a steel brush to clean it. Otherwise, you will damage the heating element.
For the Coil:
You should clean the coil of your air fryer every 3 months. If you notice that smoke is coming out of the vent of your air fryer, then you should also clean it. If you use your air fryer to cook a lot, then you should clean the coil at least once a month.
- Unplug the air fryer and let cool completely.
- Carefully turn the air fryer upside down.
- Using a moist tissue, wipe any dirt from the coil and then using a soft-bristled brush, clean it thoroughly.
- When the coil is clean, dry it using a clean towel.
- Carefully turn the air fryer to its right position.
What if my air fryer has a plastic smell?
- Dissolve 3 grams of baking powder for every100 milliliters of water in a spray bottle.
- Remove the drawer and basket from the housing and clean them as instructed above.
- Carefully turn the air fryer upside down. Shake the bottle with the cleaning solution until well mixed.
- Spray the solution around the heater area. Let the solution soak for a couple of minutes.
- Carefully turn the air fryer to its right position. Let it stand for 30 minutes.
- Carefully turn the air fryer upside down again.
- Shake the bottle with the cleaning solution until well mixed.
- Spray the solution around the heater area. Let the solution soak for a couple of minutes.
- Carefully turn the air fryer to its right position. Let it stand for 30 minutes.
- Return the drawer to the housing. Pour about 400 milliliters water into the drawer.
- Plug the air fryer and set the timer for 20 minutes at the lowest temperature – this will moisten any dirt and lodge them off.
- The drawer will catch them as they fall. Pull the drawer open and remove.
- Unplug the air fryer and let cool enough to handle and clean.
- Carefully turn the air fryer upside down.
- Using a paper towel or a clean cloth, wipe the cleaning solution and the softened dirt from the surface. Wipe clean the rest of the inside surface.
- Clean the drawer and dry. Assemble the basket back into the drawer, and return the drawer back into the housing.
A clean air fryer is a healthy air fryer, so keep your appliance clean as much as possible. Remember to clean with utmost precaution and care.
